Making a Difference

The National Festival of Making is free entry and not for profit. Donate now to help secure our future.

Our annual festival and year-round projects are delivered by Festival of Making CIC, a not for profit community interest company run by a small, passionate team based in Blackburn.

We are enormously thankful for the support of our funders, sponsors and partners who enable us to ensure we can make the festival the best it can be for our audiences each year, but we face an increasingly challenging financial environment and significantly increasing costs every year.

Unlike many festivals and events, the National Festival of Making is not a paid, ticketed event. We are proudly free entry and open to all.

Each festival features over 100 things to see and do, including workshops, performances, exhibitions, talks, markets, bringing over 300 artists and makers and 44,000 visitors to Blackburn town centre.

We are committed to keep the festival free, including almost all of our workshops, but each year brings new challenges and increased costs we need to meet.

This is where you can make a difference.

Your donation, however small, helps us cover these increasing costs to ensure the festival remains varied, accessible and free for years to come.

From helping cover the costs of workshop materials, hiring venues, purchasing volunteer t-shirts and hosting training, to providing free printed guides, paying artists to create new exhibitions and tech hire required for talks and digital screenings, by making a donation you are supporting a programme that enriches lives through making and ensures the sustained future of a locally-grown landmark event in the UK’s cultural calendar.

What’s amazing about the Festival is that it genuinely is about making, and the opportunities to give things a go are phenomenal. And that it happens in Blackburn – and engages everyone…is just brilliant.

Festival Visitor

The first time I visited with a friend was just for the afternoon. We decided we would need a whole day. This year we brought two more friends and decided we need to attend for the whole weekend next time! Love it, it’s a fabulous event for Blackburn.
