MAKER MARKETS

Shop differently this Christmas with marvellous Making markets around the country. Swap your socks and teddy bears for Greek olive oil, free range Kelly Bronze turkeys, freshwater pearls or speciality goat milk soaps. Makers Market are touring the North, Urban Makers East are hot in London, the National Trust have something for everyone and be sure to check listings closer to you.

FESTIVALS OF LIGHT

The UK has become a great place for light festivals in the last five years, with a particularly strong showing in the North West. Blackburn’s own Festival of Light (December 16th) is a festive extravaganza with pyrotechnics from the fantastic Flame Oz (HL), Dan Fox’s mobile light projections, an interactive snow cloud, and wonderful community lantern parade. Everyone is invited to join in their professional-led lantern workshop at The Bureau. Other light festivals of note include the York Christmas Festival, Salford’s Lightwaves, Longleat’s Festival of Light, Enchanted Christmas at Westonbirt Arboretum and Christmas at the Botanics in Edinburgh.
