Art in Manufacturing: Tim Denton + OEP UK

Tim Denton works from his design and build studio in Manchester, creating and constructing structural works both experimental and functional. His practice delivers bespoke furniture, temporary spaces and structures through intelligent construction presented with an effortless aesthetic.

Paired with OEP UK based in Preston and specialists in the development of prefabricated building systems, Tim’s starting point was inspired by Blackburn’s public realm.

At the last Festival of Making, Tim helped create over 300 drawings of imagined architecture with children and adults, all created from stencils that were traced directly from architectural features found around Blackburn.

The results were an eclectic mix of ‘blueprints’ that went on to inspire the next stage, which was a collaboration with mechanical and engineering students from Blackburn College to translate these designs into physical full-size models.

Being informed by both workshops, Tim has created and will be exhibiting a unique installation that will be the entrance to our Festival Square intertwining heritage and contemporary design alongside a collection of images documenting the design process that has led to the structure.
