Poured Earth Exhibition

Lewis Jones’ Poured Earth exhibition at Prism Contemporary remains open throughout the festival as planned.

The exhibition showcases new work created with Darwen Terracotta as part of the National Festival of Making’s headline commissioning programme, Art in Manufacturing.Ā

Over the last two years, designer Lewis Jones of Matter at hand has been working with Darwen Terracotta through our Art in Manufacturing programme to explore how industrial manufacturing expertise and earth-based construction methods can inform new approaches to sustainable building. What began as a programme of research, prototyping and material testing has now expanded into a longer-term ambition: the exploration of what could become the UK’s first full-scale Poured Earth building.Ā

The exhibition presents architectural models, material investigations and new work that offer a glimpse into the future possibilities of Poured Earth construction, while opening up a wider conversation about climate, housing and sustainable manufacturing. It is a unique opportunity to experience a project that connects industry, architecture, environment and creativity, demonstrating how collaborative making can help imagine and build new futures for Blackburn.Ā

You can read more about Lewis’ two-year residency here.

Also in the town centre programme presented by Super Slow Way includes; Flimsy Works will be inviting visitors to help in the construction of a model canal boat on Cathedral Square, alongside Drift, a beautiful wooden arch way installation designed and fabricated by Sam Eadington, Ecaterina Stefanescu and Lee Ivett of OPD studio, with the support of the technical team at the University of Central Lancashire.
