Give it a Bash! Pewter Keyring and Pendant Making

Discover how to use the ancient technique of Pewter Cuttlefish Casting to make your own unique jewellery. Combining unusual materials, our expert Ella McIntosh from Manchester studio This is Pewter will guide you through her processes – including molten metal and traditional jewellery-making tools – to create a one-off pewter pendant or keyring.

Ella originally trained as a silversmith but later fell in love with Pewter and hasn’t looked back. Alongside being lead and tarnish free, Pewter’s innate malleability and low melting temperature make it a perfect foil for the modern design and textural pieces that Ella makes at This is Pewter.

Since establishing her studio in Manchester’s Craft and Design Centre, Ella has been awarded best in show and first prize by The Worshipful Company of Pewterers and received prestigious including an Olympic Presentation for Ribble Valley Borough Council.

Her workshop is a great gateway into a new skill and a new material and Ella says she loves seeing her students fall as deeply in love with pewter as she once did.
