Making Noise

An eclectic mix of music and sound experiences prove that ANYONE can make music!

A programme bursting with artist commissions and performances, alive with extraordinary and memorable musical experiences, MAKING NOISE connects festival goers with installations, performances, DJ’s, instrument making workshops and much more.

Everyone is invited to play ILLUMAPHONIUM, a dynamic, multi sensory and interactive installation created by musician and inventor Michael Davis.  Standing over three and a half metres tall, Illumaphonium is a beautifully tuned array of illuminated aluminium chime bars, creating a semi acoustic, semi automatic music making sculpture.

Participate in Blackburn’s very own SOUNDTRACK, compiled and recorded, live, over the festival weekend by our partners at Reboot Project. Whether it’s memories of the rock’n’roll years, connecting to your Northern Soul roots or reliving the Acid House and Rave scene this soundtrack is set to push your ‘I was there’ button and your love of Blackburn’s music nostalgia.

MAKE IT UP will see over 40 young people in Blackburn with Darwen create a musical composition for the streets of the town. Festival of Making are delighted to be working in collaboration with Blackburn Music Hub and More Music to produce this new commission.

Ever made a trumpet from a toilet roll?! Musical Making workshops will provide people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to MAKE SOME NOISE.
Keep checking back for performance times and more programme highlights coming soon!
