Kantha Stitch Embroidery

Come along to this free workshop and meet our Kantha specialists, graduates from UCLan who have drawn upon their heritage to create modern interpretations of this age-old technique.

This traditional technique is perfect for eco-conscious consumers who would rather re-purpose their old garments and fabrics than throw them away.  The art of Kantha originated in rural India and literally means ‘rags’. It’s a traditional method used to make new fabric from worn saris but can be applied to any item of clothing. Threadbare cloths are layered and stitched together using a simple running or ‘Kantha’ stitch, bonding the layers together and creating a brand new fabric.

Suitable for ages 12+, all equipment is supplied.
