The Cyanotype, or as it is widely known, the Blueprint, was invented as a cost effective method of replicating notes and diagrams. The first creative use was by the Botanist Anna Atkins, who used it to create an extensive archive of plants and algae – creating one of the very first ‘photo books’.

Obscura is a Community Darkroom volunteer run by a collective of northern artists, based at the Bureau Center for the Arts in Blackburn. The aim is to provide affordable darkroom facilities, workshops, and a space to create work socially, keeping the knowledge of film photography alive, particularly through the younger generations.
