Hikaru Dorodango (Shiny mud dumpling)

Head to Poured Earth, the Art in Manufacturing exhibition of Matter at hand + Darwen Terracotta & Faience, to find a workshop led by Annabel Cameron-Duff.

Annabel will share with you the techniques of Hikaru Dorodango, a Japanese art form transforming a simple clay ball into a beautiful, polished sphere. During the process, a simple ball of earth is shaped by hand, layered with coloured clay slip and burnished to reveal a smooth, shiny and decorative surface.

This drop-in workshop will provide an introduction to working with earth, engaging all the senses and helping you gain an understanding of the material properties and the role they play within a mix.
