2024 Festival Dates: 6 & 7 July

Cardboard Cinema

Following its huge success in 2018 we are proud to (re)present The Cardboard Cinema created by artist Hannah Fox and The Cardboard Box Company.

The Cardboard Cinema, built within the Crypt of the Cathedral, is inspired by the fact that at one time Blackburn had and astonishing 15 cinemas. Made entirely from cardboard construction, usherettes in cardboard hats dispense cardboard tickets, the audience enter and, get comfortable on cardboard benches with popcorn in hand to enjoy a short screening; a delicate, handmade animation flickering in the dark and warm of the cardboard world.

Sponsored by The Cardboard Box Company. Hannah has worked with a range of departments at the factory exploring CAD design, construction, graphics, printing and lighting.
