Blackburn Festival of Film

This summer, Blackburn welcomes the launch of the Blackburn Festival of Film! A vibrant celebration of Northern talent and international cinema.

 

Hosted at REEL Cinema across two packed days, the festival brings together filmmakers, industry professionals, and film enthusiasts for an inspiring mix of screenings, Q&As, and hands-on experiences. Highlights include a thrilling short film competition, appearances from special guests, and interactive sessions where attendees can try out cameras and rigs. Whether discovering emerging voices or learning from established creatives, there’s something for everyone. As the day winds down, evening networking events offer the perfect setting for connecting, collaborating, and celebrating film in all its forms.

The Bashford Twins began their filmmaking journey in Blackburn, Lancashire, creating short films that quickly gained attention. At just 19, they won a Best Director Award, kickstarting a career that now includes over 20 awards and 60 global nominations. Their work is known for its gripping, socially conscious storytelling. Over eight years at Pinewood Studios, they refined their craft alongside BAFTA-winning talent. In 2025, they co-produced Bloodline, an Indian action-thriller released in cinemas across India. Now, through their company Eleven Eleven Pictures, the twins are developing a bold slate of new projects, including their highly anticipated directorial debut.

Rich is a seasoned live TV camera operator, sports photographer, and film educator with over 12 years of experience. As Curriculum Manager for Film and Music at Blackburn College, he’s helped countless students launch successful industry careers. Passionate about accessibility, he founded the Blackburn Film Academy to give young people hands-on filmmaking opportunities. He also launched the Blackburn Film Fund and partnered with the National Film and Television School to support emerging talent.
