2025 Festival Dates: 5 & 6 July

SCRUMPTIOUS!

A magically sweet show about friendship and ice cream!

All is well at Sylvie’s Scrumptious Sweet Shop, P.C. Lee can’t resist the fruit cake, Stanley the Horse loves peppermint creams, and the Talkative Twins only cause a crumb of chaos. That is until a stranger arrives, and their irresistible ice cream threatens to spoil everything…

The show lasts about 45 minutes and is perfect for children aged four and above (and their grown-ups!).

The shows will take place on Sunday only. Exact times and booking info coming soon.

During the ‘SCRUMPTIOUS!’ development process, theatre company Beggars Belief collaborated with community groups across Blackburn, Darwen and Blackpool. Together, they explored stories around childhood memories. Many talked about trips to the seaside, sweets, ice cream, grandparents, hot summers, favourite places and making friends. These themes and the characters discovered came together to form ‘SCRUMPTIOUS!’

About Beggars Belief

We are a collective of theatre makers, performers and artists from Lancashire. We put our audiences at the heart of all the work we make and we have been creating family shows specifically for libraries since 2018. Our goal is to inspire a new generation of readers, writers and storytellers who might never have been to a performance before.

‘SCRUMPTIOUS!’ was created by Nicky McRoy, Guy Hargreaves, Marjan Wouda, Vicky Best, Aaron Ormesher, Mark Melville and Evie Hargreaves. Local community groups were involved in creating characters, environmental themes and important aspects of the storyline.

Beggars Belief are grateful to Rainbow Zone (Darwen), Barnardo’s Youth Theatre Group at M6 Theatre (Rochdale), Whitehall Park Supporters Group, Talk Ourselves Well Men’s Group and The Old Electric Adult Drama Group (Blackpool). Beggars Belief acknowledges the generous support from Arts Council England, Blackburn with Darwen Library Services, M6 Theatre for Children and Spot On, Lancashire.
