Sun Printing with Cyanotypes

Make your own beautiful sun print to take home.

The Cyanotype, or as it is widely known, the Blueprint, was invented as a cost effective method of replicating notes and diagrams. The first creative use was by the Botanist Anna Atkins, who used it to create an extensive archive of plants and algae – creating one of the very first ‘photo books’.

Obscura is a Community Darkroom volunteer run by a collective of northern artists, based at the Bureau Center for the Arts in Blackburn. Our aim is to provide affordable darkroom facilities, workshops, and a space to create work socially, keeping the knowledge of film photography alive, particularly through the younger generations. Obscura was recently awarded Arts Council funding to deliver a project to grow a Creative Community at the darkroom. We’re hosting a range of different activities this summer for all different ages and skill levels. Find out more about what’s on offer through our social media
